3M hot melt glue sticks and low melt glue sticks
3M hot melt glue sticks are not well suited for all substrates and there is the risk of injury .
In response, 3M developed low melt glue sticks
3M Low Melt glue sticks operate at a lower temperature and are therefore safer to use and mean less work related injuries as risk of burns are reduced. 3M Low Melt glue sticks are favoured for bonding heat sensitive materials like polystyrene and foam.
Some 3M Low Melt formulations also perform better in refrigerator or freezer applications and they can also be safer to use if burns from hot melt is a concern. When using 3M Low Melt hot melt, look for the LT (Low Temp) in the part number. If your glue stick part number ends in LT, it is a low temp glue stick which means it has a lower melting temp (Example: part number 3764 vs 3764LT). These LT sticks need to be used with LT (Low Temp) 3M glue guns.
